Raktabasti Treatment(Ayurvedic thalassemia major treatment)
About Raktabasti Treatment and Method of Raktbasti :
Goat blood (Aja Rakta - 100 ml.)
Ayurvedic Raktskandavrodhak (Anti-coagulant - 25 ml.)
Ratio of the Goat blood and Ayurvedic Raktskandavrodhak is studied and proved to prevent the coagulation by pilot study . So the dose of Goat blood and Ayurvedic Raktskandavrodhak is decided on this base.
Above material will be mixed and given as raktbastidravya through anus by a raktbasti set, Prior to the raktbasti patient will be given Haritakyadi yog 10 gm at night for Kosth Sudhdhi (duration for three days).
According to Charak Samhita pharmacological action of Haritakyadiyog as Kosthsudhhi is mentioned in the same chapter. We are using it for kosthsudhhi only.
The goat blood is filled in a well sterilized meas uring sylinder along with transfusion set. The end of the set is att ach edwill be introduce d in the rectum of the patient. 100 ml total quantity of anti coagulated goat blood will be transfer within 30 minutes by ano rectal root.
No complications of Raktbasti are reported during my PG study. (Copy of summery of my PG study about Raktbasti is enclosed.) So far if any adverse effect will reported, required investigations like Bile Salt, Bile Pigment etc and treatment will carried out.
Patient should come within three
days after each Blood transfusion
Hb should be 11 gm% or above
after Blood transfusion
Treatment course is for 10 days after each Blood
transfusion

This treatment is approved by Tha Institutional Ethical Committee of ISM&H, Gujarat State
Goat blood is given for treatment after all prior required investigations in the laboratory of Animal Husbandry Department of Gujarat State.
